Transition Networks Launches New Network Interface Devices and Service Provisioning Apps
Transition Networks Launches Network Interface Devices and Service Provisioning Apps for Easy Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Service Turn Up, SLAs
Nov. 19, 2014 — Transition Networks, Inc., the fiber access technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-GM: JCS), expanded its Carrier Ethernet (CE) solution set with the debut of the new S3290 family of managed network interface devices (NIDs). In addition, Transition Networks will demonstrate software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities enabled by their line of CE 2.0 NIDs highlighting revenue generation and operational expense saving applications through the NIDs controlled by remotely located tablet computers.
The S3290 NIDs are designed to help carriers with rapid service turn up, advanced diagnostics, service level agreement (SLAs) enforcement and multi-service provisioning.
The devices are fan-less and compact in design requiring less rack space and power, and they support advanced Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and multiprotocol label switching-transport profile (MPLS-TP) protocols. The NIDs support Y.1564 and RFC 2544 SLA standards and a wide range of fault management and performance monitoring services. In addition, the NIDs support IEEE 1588v2, the leading time synchronization standard, to support voice services in wireless backhaul networks.
The new S3290 managed NIDs are part of Transition Networks’ comprehensive Carrier Ethernet 2.0 product family that is designed to help service providers deliver dynamic services through advanced edge and access networks. These access and aggregation switches and NIDs are complemented by Converge service orchestration software that provides simplified provisioning for dynamic Carrier Ethernet 2.0 services along with serving custom productivity applications through open REST APIs.
“The edge of the network is the most costly for carriers to manage, especially when it comes time to provision services. We designed the S3290 with the performance that carriers expect from Transition Networks, and expanded the manageability features to simplify provisioning and flexibility,” said Tony LeFebvre, Director of Product Management for Transition. “Adding this with our Converge services orchestration solution brings the ease of focused apps through the power of customizable APIs – to make a huge impact by providing the speed and services that business customers want.”
Smallest NIDS on The Market
The compact, six-port S3290 devices are up to 50 percent smaller than competing devices for use in environments where space is at a premium. There are two models: the S3290-24 with two 10/100/1000 RJ45 copper ports and four 100/1000 SFP ports for fiber-optic connectivity, and the S3290-42, which features four RJ45 ports and and two SFP ports. Both models are available to support either AC or DC power. In addition, they both feature a fan-less design and are rated for operation at up to 65 degrees Celsius / 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
The NID is supported by Converge services orchestration software that also supports representational state transfer (REST) application programming interfaces (API) that make it possible to deliver customized service provisioning and deployment apps that can be used across the entire Transition Networks carrier Ethernet product family to easily deploy new services.
Converge Service Orchestration Suite of Apps Allow Provisioning of Services in Minutes
As a way to demonstrate how service provisioning and bandwidth allocation can be simplified, Transition will demonstrate two tablet computer apps it has developed to extend the capabilities of Converge Service Orchestration Software.
On display will be the Converge Service Provisioning App, which carriers can use to create, provision and protect a new service, and the Converge Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation App, an end user-focused app that provides on-the-fly changes in bandwidth. The apps complement the suite of Transition Networks NIDs and access switches to offer a robust portfolio of CE solutions. Creating or changing a service using the apps is as easy as selecting the end devices, checking off several service parameters and making the service live.
The S3290 with Converge EMS is now available worldwide through Transition Networks and its resellers.
