Fibre to the Desk (FTTD)

Fibre to the desk is not only more secure than copper cabling; it can also generate higher signal quality while supporting higher speeds, and feature-rich applications. Media Conversion

NIC’s work well in a new development, but they can be very time consuming in retro-fitting existing installations. As an alternative to installing a fibre optic network card (NIC) in every PC/workstation within an agency or organisation media converters can be a cost-effective alternative.

A Media Converter can range from a simple device that converts copper to fibre to a more advanced feature rich, managed device. These advanced features include: Last Gasp, Far End Fault (FEF), Link Pass Through (LPT), Transparent LPT, Autonegotiation, autocross (MDI/MDIX), and Automatic Link Restoration. Each of these feature sets are specifically designed to reduce implementation time and to identify faults in more intelligent devices with trapping capabilities or alarms.

ION Multi-Service Platform

The ION Platform is an intelligent, high-density, multi-protocol system supporting a variety of network interface devices. Designed for both carrier class and enterprise network applications where multiple points of fibre integration and secure network management of the fibre interface devices is essential. An end-to-end fibre integration solution can be achieved by pairing the modules in a high density ION chassis with the modules in another ION chassis, or a Transition Networks’ stand-alone device.

To take full advantage of all the features and functions available with the ION Chassis, an ION Management Module is required. The ION Management Module connects to the chassis backplane and communicates with the individual cards in the ION Chassis. Each slide-in module for the ION Chassis has specific features and functions that are controlled via the ION Management Module. A network administrator can configure, monitor and troubleshoot ION slide-in modules remotely via the ION Management Module.

Transition Networks understands that no network is managed in the same manner and that different security levels and management interfaces are often required depending on the deployment of the ION Chassis. With that in mind, the ION Platform has been designed to be one of the most versatile and secure fibre integration systems available today.
